DC has been absolutely killing it with their B covers lately, and this week is no exception:
SUICIDE SQUAD lookin all pink but also edgy. I admit, I’ve never really been sold on the like “dark but also neon” thing Suicide Squad has been doing since the movie, but I really dig the dark and grimy twinge Mattina adds into the mix. This definitely works and is better in my opinion than previous B covers, like the Sorrentino run (nothing against Sorrentino, the covers just didn’t sell me). Continue reading
Not really the “comeback” post I was expecting…
I’m going to be trying to do some more regular content like this, more comic things, maybe movie reviews, just things I can do to keep content coming.
Please note “trying.”
Anyway, I live and breath comics day to day, so I figure a good place to start is doing some comics-based posts again.
The real question is “why should you care?” Well, you shouldn’t. What are you doing here? You have better things to do.
(Seriously though, thank you for reading)
Let’s get started.
Today’s topic is the variant cover for Batman #47:
On the whole, there is nothing WRONG with this cover. It sets an adorable scene and helps build anticipation for the *SPOILER FOR ANYONE WHO HAS BEEN OFF PLANET FOR ABOUT A YEAR* impending marriage between Batman and Catwoman that is set to happen in issue #50. Continue reading
I was going through some old comics at work the other day, and was reminded just how good the covers to the Before Watchmen series were.
For those who are unaware, Before Watchmen was a collection of mini-series that came out around 3 years ago and acted as a prequel to the (in)famous Alan Moore book, The Watchmen.
Now, however you feel about the actual stories or their existence in general, which for Alan Moore is understandably negative, the covers themselves were fantastic.
For those of you buying comics today, the big news is Superman #38 that closes out a big story arc going on in the comic and culminates in the Man O’ Iron Alloy developing a new power. And he’s gonna need it. I mean, check this out:
So, working at a comic shop and being an avid lover of all things comics, from time to time I stumble upon comics covers that are just humorous. From time to time I will post my “critiques” of these (I’m looking at you, Greg Land).
Just a note, I can’t draw. I am not an artist. I am not judging these covers to say I am better than the artists or that the artists aren’t talented. I just like riffing on stuff. If you are offended, get a sense of humor.
Anywho, this time is one I’ve been meaning to post about for a while. It is an older cover from the Batman Eternal series. For the uninitiated, Batman Eternal is a weekly title featuring the caped crusader. Each week, the cover is just… abysmal… Like, bad… I don’t know if it’s the deadlines, timeframe or the amount of covers the artists have to pump out, but they are quite awful. Here is what the cover of #32 looks like:
Did you see it…
Bats… dude… what’s up?
I went ahead and took some creative liberties:
Based on this cover, I can only assume the following is what takes place within the comic itself:
And finally, the face-swap:
Anywho, hope everyone had a good weekend. ‘Til next time!
